It is natural to grieve. It is unnatural to stay stuck.

The Grief FLOW Method™ is a neuroscience-informed map of why grief gets stuck in the brain - and the practice to help it move again.

You wake up and for half a second, everything feels normal.

Then it hits. The empty chair. The silence where their voice should be. The way your body tenses before you even remember why.

You have been told grief takes time. You have given it time. Months. Years. And still it loops. Still it plays the same memories, triggers the same body alarms, leaves you wondering if something is fundamentally broken in you.

Nothing is broken in you.
Your grief feels stuck because it is stuck - not because you are failing at it.

GriefBrain

Why grief gets stuck

Emotions are designed to travel through five brain areas in sequence:

  1. Attachment & Lovethe bond. Who is important to me.
  2. Evaluation & Alarmthe body bracing.
  3. Sharing & Connectionwitnessed, not alone.
  4. Joy & Identityfinding who I am while carrying this.
  5. Logic & Storythe narrative I can carry.

In healthy grief, emotion moves up through all five. When grief is too big for capacity, levels 3 and 4 cramp first. Sharing goes dark. Identity collapses. The brain jumps from Level 2 straight to Level 5 - and writes a story from incomplete information.

That is GriefBrain. It is not weakness. It is not pathology. It is a neurological reality. And it has a name, a mechanism, and a way through.

The Method

The Grief FLOW Method™

A map and a practice for helping cramped grief move again.

FFeel the attachment pain instead of running from it.
LLet it be shared with someone who can hold it.
OOrganize your identity around the loss without erasing who you were.
WWalk into a story that carries both the love and the loss.

Sequence matters. The brain works in sequence.

This is not therapy. It is education. A map, not a cure. Built by bereaved parents for bereaved people.

Where this comes from

Grounded in the affect-regulation neuroscience of Dr. Allan Schore and the applied five-level brain model of Dr. James Wilder.

Built and tested over eleven years by Stuart and Xaviera Latta, founders of Jacoby's Shield, in the community of bereaved families that formed after the death of their three-year-old son Jacoby in 2015.

The neuroscience belongs to the field. The grief-specific application is ours.

Founding Membership

Open to 50 families who want to help us build what comes next - and who want a small community to do this work alongside. Priority enrollment in every Circle cohort, monthly recorded Q&A, the book at cost when it ships, and a rate that stays locked for as long as you stay.

The Circle is a witness group. We do not run it as therapy. You will not be asked to perform your grief.

The weekly letters

Not ready to commit. Want to read for a while, see if this language fits. Short weekly letters from Stuart - the same teaching the Founding Members get, in your inbox. No Circle sessions. No live group. Just the weekly teaching, yours to read on your terms.

Over time, you will have language for what your brain has been doing. The letters will not push you. Unsubscribe any time.

We give you permission to grieve.
We will help you not stay stuck.

When you are ready, the door is open.
